I’m guessing that most people reading this review are after something smaller than a normal Dyson bagless vacuum that performs better than the other small vacuum cleaners available and want to know if the DC26 delivers. Me too, so I decided to get hold of one and test it out on my albeit fairly small 3 bedroom house to see if it gives the results you’d expect for this price. It’s one of the best looking small vacuum cleaners, designed specifically for “city dwellers that inhabit small spaces” according to the Dyson website. It would also suit someone who finds the heavier machines hard to use (that includes me!) – it weighs in at just over 5kg.

Size

Well, the DC26 is definitely small and just about fits in a typical kitchen cupboard, although it’s awkward to get all the bits in it. The size of the canister made me wonder if it would have to be emptied after vacuuming each room. I’m glad to say that I managed to do the whole house before needing to empty. It was also great not to have to lug my other rather heavy Dyson bagless vacuum up the stairs. I did have to keep unplugging it, though as the lead (5m) didn’t go very far – I suppose this is one of the sacrifices made to keep the whole set-up small.Back to Features List

Suction and Power

With its patented Root Cyclone™ technology, Dyson promises good suction that doesn’t diminish. I found the DC26 to be very effective on my carpets and hard floors. I was expecting to have to compromise more on the power considering the size of the machine, but I think it compares well with my other Dyson bagless vacuum. I like the Dual Channel floor tool. It has two separate airflow channels to direct suction power evenly. Its flat head makes getting under sofas and armchairs easy. This is great because it means I don’t have to change tools, as I do with my larger vacuum cleaner. It also has a clever pressure-valve which allows you to vacuum rugs without them getting sucked up!Back to Features List

Pets

We don’t have any pets, so I popped next door to test out the DC26′s performance on pet hairs. Sadly, I have to say that it didn’t do a great job, as I could still see loads of hairs after vacuuming the carpet – it seems that it’s not easy to get a really good pet hair remover, according to my neighbour. Ease of Use

For me, the Dyson DC26 is a cinch to use, no heavy lugging and the big red on/off button is impossible to miss. The adjustable ‘T2’ telescopic wand (made with 20% glass-filled polypropylene) is light and comfortable to hold. Emptying the canister is a doddle, epecially if you have already experienced a Dyson bagless vacuum.Back to Features List

To sum up, The Dyson DC26 is a great choice for anyone who needs a small, lightweight vacuum cleaner or has limited space. It performs well given its size with good suction and is easy to use and move around. One of the better small vacuum cleaners on the market
